Single Sign-On for Blackbaud CRM

Solutions from Zuri Group

Like many things in the non-profit world, we’re accustomed to playing catch-up with our peers in the for-profit/commercial arena – and it’s no different when it comes to SSO solutions.

What is it?

SSO (single sign-on) is an authentication process that allows a user to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials.

What are the benefits?

In addition to an enhanced user experience, SSO also offers an increased layer of security. It can also provide a savings in time and resources for IT administrators.

How it works

SSO (single sign-on) is an authentication process that allows a user to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials.

SAML

In the SAML ‘standard’ there are two entities:

  • IDP (Identity Provider): The IDP handles the authentication. This is also where a second factor of authentications; such as DUO, gets plugged-in. DUO or other similar solutions will push a 6-digit code or notification to your smartphone to validate you are who you say you are.
    • Examples of IDPs: Shibboleth, OneLogin, Centrify, Active Directory Federated Services and CAS
  • SP (Service Provider): After successfully being authenticated, the IDP sends a message to the SP containing the user information and logs the user into the chosen application.
    • Examples of SPs: Blackbaud CRM, BBIS
